Plans have been submitted to Stockport Council for the refurbishment of the Golden Hind pub in Offerton.

The much-loved local, which closed unexpectedly in November 2023, is returning after it was bought by pub operator Joseph Holt.

The well-established operator has pledged £1m to the refurbishment of the pub, promising a traditional redesign with open-fireplaces and 'characterful' furnishings.

Submitted plans show a revitalised bar lounge replete with comfortable furniture and a log burner for the interior.

There's also a central wrap-around bar and a function room.

Outside, there will be a terrace with a roof canopy and atmospheric festoon lighting.

Functional areas include a prep kitchen and a staff room.

A decision on the plans is due in September 2026.

Speaking to MEN not longer after the change in ownership, Joseph Holt CEO Richard Kershaw said: "We were thrilled to have the opportunity to acquire the former Golden Hind."

And, in a message shared by former Offerton councillor Helen Hibbert, Kershaw added: "We cannot wait to bring this fantastic community pub back to life to serve the great people of Offerton."

Sharing the news of the sale on social media, Lib Dem councillor Dan Oliver said he and the other councillors on the ward were 'really pleased'.

Until its closure in 2023, the pub had been open for 56 years. The change in ownership marks a new chapter for the building.

Joseph Holt is a Manchester-based brewery founded in 1849. It has been owned by the same family for six generations.

They own 127 pubs across the North West, most of which are in Greater Manchester.
