A new office building in Merseyway shopping centre is almost at full capacity, less than two years after opening.

The Merseyway Innovation Centre, which opened in November 2023, is now 97 percent full, with around 25 local businesses currently calling it home.

Located on the first floor of Merseyway, it was designed to convert what was once 'failing retail space' into high-quality new offices. In doing so, planners hoped to increase footfall in the area and provide a place for small businesses to grow.

As well as a range of different office spaces for all kinds of business, it also features shared kitchens, co-working space, and even showers.

Some of the businesses which now call the Innovation Centre home include architects Gannon Works, Litmus Sustainability, and the British Association of Sport Rehabilitators and Athletic Therapists Ltd.

Rob Kates, who manages the Innovation Centre, said it was "a clear testament to the strong demand for office space with that added extra in Stockport".

"What sets Merseyway Innovation Centre apart is its comprehensive business support and genuine sense of community - something truly unique in the town", he added.

"But the job isn't done. Growth means that as established businesses move on, new ones are ready to take their place."

Stockport Council's cabinet member for economy Michaela Meikle also said: "The success of Merseyway Innovation Centre is a fantastic reflection of Stockport's growing reputation as a hub for creativity, enterprise and innovation. [...]

"We're creating the conditions for businesses to thrive and building an innovation economy that sits confidently alongside retail, culture public spaces."
