A new coffee shop has opened in Offerton.

Ranny's, based at 407 Hempshaw Lane, opened on Wednesday 3 June, and has already proved hugely popular with locals.

Owner Rhianne explained she started the business after being frustrated that there weren't many places in the neighbourhood to go for a coffee.

"It seems like something that was needed", she said.

"The local community has been waiting for a coffee shop.

"There's some lovely pubs nearby, but not everyone wants to sit in a pub if they're just having a brew."

On the menu is a range of caffeinated favourites, plus a delicious set of bakes.

Ranny's is based in what was formerly the Hempshaw Lane Fish Bar.

The building has since then been sensitively redesigned - with much of the work done by Rhianne herself - in a stylish mid-century palette.

The decor comes from charity shops, antiques centres, and much of it from family; among the crockery, for example, is a beautiful set of Denby plates dating from the '60s, from a grandparent.

She explained that she wants the layout to feel 'familiar' to visitors - and it's certainly true that the café is suffused with charm and nostalgia.

Rhianne wanted to create something with soul; even the wall decor is exclusively comprised of artwork - no ads, no TV screens - the result is that guests feel instantly at home, in warm, comforting surroundings.

Ranny's is open from 7am-4pm Tuesday to Friday, and 9am-4pm Saturday to Sunday.
