Thirty-nine community projects across Stockport are to benefit from almost £1m from the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

£989,000 will be distributed between the different projects, which range from gastronomy to gardening.

Some of the projects include:

  • A street arts festival
  • A community sensory garden
  • An exhibition at Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery
  • Viaduct Park events
  • A creative writing and arts programme

The government provides UKSPF funding to local authorities such as Stockport Council, who in turn can allocate it to projects such as these. Thus far, Stockport has received £2.4m in total UKSPF funding.

Updates will follow in due course on the respective events.

Cllr Colin Macalister, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: "Once again, this is great news that this funding has been allocated to some fantastic community-based projects within Stockport.

"It will enable the borough to build on the fantastic work carried out when we were named Town of Culture, and the projects will enable some really exciting schemes to be brought to life.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the projects delivered and enjoyed by our residents."
