Stockport Council has opened two new 'family hubs' in Brinnington and Adswood as part of a UK Government scheme.

The aim of the hubs is to offer a drop-in space for families across Stockport to access support and information, specifically relating to children from birth to age 19.

The council says of the hubs: "Family Hubs help all families, whatever the problem or issue, no matter how big or how small. They offer information, help and support on various needs, from midwifery to mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, benefits, and employment."

There is no need for referral for these new hubs.

Speaking of the scheme on a national level, the UK Government said it will: "Contribute to a reduction in inequalities in health and education outcomes for babies, children and families across England by ensuring that support provided is communicated to all parents and carers, including those who are hardest to reach and/or most in need of it."

A similar scheme in Norfolk, for example, saw the local NHS trust streamline all of its digital information on children and babies into a more accessible website.

Councillor Wendy Meikle, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Families, says: "We believe that all babies, children, and young people living in Stockport should have any help they need to start well, live well, and thrive.

"One Stockport Family Hubs bring together the wide range of services available for children, young people, and families to make it easier for you and your family to access information, help and support in your local community, or online 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

The first two hubs are now open at the former Start Well sites on Westmorland Drive, Brinnington and Garners Lane, Adswood with an additional five locations planned across the borough by 2024.
