Plans for a new college and housing development in Cheadle Hulme remain under discussion. 

The proposals would see a new £27 million building complex for Cheadle College, on the site of an informal sports pitch just north of the existing site. Once the new college is built, the old site would be demolished, and 32 new houses built in its place. 

Proposals were submitted to Stockport Council in July of this year - however, amendments, consultee comments and reports have continued to take place this month. 

A planning statement argued that the goal is to "create a college that will be regarded as one of the finest nationally in the further education sector" and provide an "inspirational learning environment".

The existing building dates from the 1950s - the planning statement argues that it is energy inefficient and larger than required for the college's curriculum. 

Development of the new college would be 'phased' to allow the existing college building to operate while the new modern replacement is being constructed.

Sport England objected to the proposals in October, on the grounds that the new building(s) would lead to the loss of a playing field (the playing field in this case would be the site for the new college).  

Others were more sympathetic; Cheadle College has received approval from the Department of Education to redevelop its estate, and £20 million from the UK government to go about the construction.

The new college building is proposed to include laboratories, T-Level facilities, and specialist facilities for students with special educational needs and disabilities. 

As for the houses, they would be split between one and two-bedroom apartments, two and three-bed terraced houses, three-bed semi-detached homes, and four and five-bedroom detached houses.

"The presence of the adjacent primary and secondary schools, as well as the new Cheadle College offers prime catchment for future residents, making the site very desirable," the design and access report states.

As yet the local authority's decision on the plans is not available.
