A new Asda express store is coming to the BP Garage at 36 Buxton Road, near Hazel Grove police station.

It comes as part of the supermarket chain's £2.07bn acquisition of EG Group, which will see Asda take over hundreds of new convenience stores at EG Sites.

As Asda says, the acquisition "[will] grow presence in the £64bn foodservice market, with the transfer of 462 Greggs, Burger King and Subway outlets located on the EG Group sites".

310 similar conversions are taking place across the UK, with the roll-out expected to begin in the coming weeks.

An Asda spokesperson said: "This acceleration into convenience plays a key role in our ambition to grow our share and becoming the number two supermarket in the UK. We look forward to bringing Asda's great value fuel and groceries to more communities across the UK as we continue our rollout in the coming months."

Visitors can expect the store to stock around 3,000 items - the usual range of branded and own-label products.

It comes not long after another ASDA express opened in Great Moor, as the supermarket chain continues its expansion not just along Buxton Road but into the convenience sector more generally.
