Music tourists from across the UK flocked to Stockport on Sunday (18 August) to see the unveiling of a new plaque at Strawberry Studios.

The plaque sits proudly on the outside wall of the building. It celebrates both the studio itself, and 10cc, the legendary group who formed and recorded there from 1972-76.

The plaque was unveiled in a ceremony hosted by Stockport Music Story, featuring some special guests: Peter Tattersall, founder of Strawberry Studios; Dr Peter Wadsworth, music historian; and Liam Newton, author of The Worst Band in the World, a biography of 10cc.

Visitors at the ceremony also got the chance to look around the studio itself, and to hear an unreleased version of I'm Not in Love, the 10cc song which needs no introduction.

The plaque itself reads: "The original lineup of 10cc formed here in 1972. Eric Stewart, Graham Gouldman, Kevin Godley and Lol Creme combined their songwriting and production talents to record four innovative albums and a string of hit singles, including the groundbreaking 'I'm Not in Love'."

A Stockport Music Story spokesperson said of the event: "It was lovely to meet so many lovely 10cc fans who had travelled from as far afield as Oxford, Leeds and Ellesmere Port to attend the event. Thank you to everyone who supported our project through the purchase of #StrawberryStudiosForever Albums and Music Maps."

It comes not long after two similar plaques were unveiled in June in Stockport's Underbanks.

These celebrated Intercity Studios (a precursor to Strawberry Studios), and Unknown Pleasures, the iconic Joy Division album which was recorded here in Stockport.
