On 9 September, Stockport's underbanks will become a hub of music, making, and more, as it takes part in 'Heritage Open Day'.

Described as 'England's largest community-led festival of history and culture', Heritage Open Day sees towns and cities across the country celebrate their heritage, community and history through a range of events.

Stockport is no exception, and will take part in celebrations with a special day in the Underbanks.

The day will involve a whole host of crafts, live music, morris dancers, talks, and more. Stockport Dungeons will also be open, and the Stockport Heritage Trust will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about the history of Stockport.

What's more, a walking tour will also take place on Sunday 10 and Saturday 16 September, also organised by Heritage Open Days. This stroll will incorporate hundreds of years of Stockport architectural history. Read more about it HERE.

The nationwide organisers of Heritage Open Day say: "Every year in September it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history.

"Stories are told, traditions explored, and histories brought to life. It's your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it's all free."

As for what crafts to expect, Stockport Council says: "This event is all about giving it a go! Have a go at traditional crafts such as stone carving, silver work, signwriting, ceramic sculpture making, ceramic pinch pot making and coil building, weaving, copper bashing, leather work, and sash window repair, all for free!"
