Marple Aqueduct is one of the best tourist attractions in Greater Manchester.

That's according to new research by SEObacklinks, which measured how highly different places across the region ranked according to average Google Reviews.

Marple Aqueduct placed at number seven across the city region, with an average 4.8 stars out of more than 500 reviews.

Reviewers praised the beautiful surrounding walks, the stunning view from the aqueduct itself, and the sheer feat of engineering on display.

Taking the top spot was the North West Computer Museum in Leigh, with a near-flawless 4.9-star score.

Other high rankers included the Fireground in Rochdale, The John Rylands Library, Dovestones Reservoir, and the Lancashire Mining Museum, at numbers two through five respectively.

To build the ranking, SEObacklinks ran more than 3,000 Google Maps searches for visitor attractions across the UK, cutting out anywhere with fewer than 300 Google reviews.

The search found 73 attractions in Greater Manchester, with the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre taking up the last spot in the list, with a still-respectable 4.01 stars.

Oliver Weston, founder of SEObacklinks, said: "What stands out to me is that a specialist computer museum in Leigh has finished ahead of some of Greater Manchester's biggest and best-known attractions.

"There is real variety near the top, from firefighting and mining museums to a Gothic library, country walks and heritage trains."

Hazel Grove MP Lisa Smart is involved in a campaign to have Marple Locks designated as a World Heritage site.

Work is still ongoing to persuade the government to put forward an application to UNESCO, which decides the heritage status.

In the meantime, a new visitor centre is under construction at Marple Wharf.
