A man has been charged with three counts of assault - including of a police officer - following an incident on Palatine Road on Tuesday (19 August).

Aaron Savage, 31, of no fixed abode, will appear at Stockport Magistrates' Court today (Thursday 21 August).

Police had been called to a domestic incident - one of the officers attending the scene sustained a suspected broken cheekbone and injuries to his tongue.

Two members of the public came to the assistance of the officer.

Assistant Chief Constable Matt Boyle from Greater Manchester Police said: "This is yet another reminder of the risks police officers face daily in their efforts to protect the public.

"Assaults on officers are never acceptable. Our officers routinely place themselves in harm's way to safeguard others, and they deserve our full support and respect for the work they do.

"Responding to domestic incidents is a priority for GMP. These calls are often among the most emotionally charged and potentially dangerous situations our officers attend.

"We remain committed to protecting vulnerable victims, offering them the support they need, and ensuring their safety.

"Our officers will continue to respond with professionalism and compassion, even in the most challenging circumstances."
