A man has been charged with two counts of burglary following reports of cameras being stolen from a college in Stockport.

Following a police investigation, it was discovered that 12 cameras, with a total value of approximately £7,200, had gone missing.

Further still, the cameras contained important coursework produced by students at the college.

Most of the cameras were later recovered, found in second hand shops in Stockport town centre.

Following the investigation, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) identified and arrested a suspect.

As GMP said: "Staff were able to set-up and utilise hidden cameras in an attempt to catch the suspected burglar.

"Sure enough, the male continued his spree and was captured on camera (no pun intended)."

The man "provided no justification for his actions", police said. He will appear at Stockport Magistrates' Court later this year.

PC Carroll, an officer in the case, said: "The male in question thought he could snap up some easy cash, leaving students unable to develop their coursework.

"Instead, he found himself at the focus of our investigation. This resulted in a fast capture and the receiving of his very own custody selfie."
