Man arrested in connection with fatal traffic collision in Stockport

A man has been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving, following an incident on Buxton Road yesterday (9 November).

The 29-year-old male was driving a vehicle along Buxton Road when it mounted the pavement on its nearside and collided with a pedestrian near to the junction of Fence Street.

The pedestrian - a 77 year old male - was taken to hospital, where he tragically died as a result of injuries sustained during the collision.

The vehicle re-joined the carriageway and another vehicle followed for a short distance before colliding with it on London Road at the junction of Mill Street.

The driver of the first vehicle remains in police custody whilst the investigation is ongoing.

Detectives from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has dashcam footage to contact them quoting log 1288 of 9th November 2023.
