Stockport residents will soon be able to have their say on the £250m Stockport 8 regeneration project planned for the west of the town centre.
Muse, the developer for the project, is inviting residents to be part of a 'first community conversation' for the project, which aims to transform eight acres of the town centre between the viaduct and King Street West into a 'mixed-use neighbourhood'.
Residents will be able to give their views on the plans by attending drop-in sessions, online Q&A meetings, or by filling out questionnaires or writing letters. For a full list, see the end of this article.
The plan involves the construction of 1,200 new homes, which will be a mixture of affordable homes, Build to Rent (BtR) and open market sale, which provide a number of investment opportunities.
Muse said Stockport 8 plans aim to "reconnect the site to nearby neighbourhoods and the town centre, bringing life back to what was once a thriving residential neighbourhood under the railway arches."
As well as homes, it will include office and retail space, and will be entirely 'digitally-enabled'.
Muse will work with Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) to deliver the £250m project, using money from the English Cities Fund. The plans are among the largest town-centre development projects in the UK, let alone Greater Manchester.
