Lancashire Hill unveils new defibrillator after determined fundraising effort

Residents of Lancashire Hill and beyond have a bit more peace of mind thanks to the introduction of a new defibrillator.
It's sited just outside Stonemill Terrace, and will serve all locals and visitors within a 500-metre radius.
Behind this defib - and countless others like it - is Aidan Jackson, a passionate fundraiser who is determined to get these life-saving devices installed in as many places as possible.
"The original idea just came from the fact that there weren't any in the local area", he said.
"It gives a sense of security. Every single person here - whether you're young or old - anyone can face heart problems.
"It's always nice to have one on standby, because it could be that the ambulance is five minutes away. The defib may save a person's life."

It's certainly true that a defibrillator can be the difference between life and death - using a defibrillator within 3 to 5 minutes of a cardiac arrest can increase the chance of survival by 50 to 70 percent.
The Lancashire Hill defibrillator was funded with support from BRSK, and there are further sites planned across the Greater Manchester area.
Councillor Keith Holloway, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care at Stockport Council, praised the initiative: "It's fantastic to see the Lancashire Hill community benefiting from this life-saving defibrillator", he said.
"This is an important step in ensuring our residents have quick access to the equipment they need in an emergency. We're proud to support these efforts and encourage others to get involved in making Stockport a safer place for all."
