The Labour Party has announced Claire Vibert as its parliamentary candidate for Hazel Grove.

Already a Labour councillor at Stockport Town Hall, Cllr Vibert has previously worked as a civil servant and is currently shadow cabinet member for economy, regeneration and housing at the council.

"I'm honoured to be the Labour candidate for my home constituency of Hazel Grove", Cllr Vibert said.

"After fourteen years of chaos under the Tories and the Lib Dem coalition, residents here are ready for change. They deserve a Labour government that will deliver the stability the country needs, and they can vote with confidence for a Labour MP here.

"I've lived here for over a decade, and am raising my three children here. I understand the issues local people face and will be a strong voice for them in Parliament if elected."

At the next general election, Manor ward will be transferred from within the Stockport constituency boundary to Hazel Grove.

The next election must be held no later than January 28 2025.
