Stockport Council has announced that an investigation into the presence of reinforeced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) at the Forum Theatre in Romiley is ongoing and expected to carry on into next week.
Once a decision is reached, a 'plan of action' will be produced which may involve re-opening parts of the building, but only once safety is assured.
As it stands, all scheduled events at the theatre have been either rescheduled or relocated to other venues. If ticket holders haven't been informed they should contact the theatre for more information.
The presence of RAAC at the Forum Theatre has been known about since 2017, when roof repairs were undertaken.
Since then, the council says, it has been managed in accordance with industry standards. It is only in light of new government guidance that further investigations have begun, and the decision was made to close the theatre as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of visitors, performers, and staff.
Stockport Council says: "NK Theatre Arts and management of The Forum Theatre have been overwhelmed by the offers of support they have received from the local community since the temporary closure was announced. Theatre workshops for over 200 members are continuing to take place at other venues across Stockport."
