Industrial action by junior doctors from the British Medical Association (BMA) is set to take place at all NHS organisations - including Stockport - from 7am on Thursday 13 July until 7am on Tuesday 18 July.

Furthermore, industrial action by consultant doctors who are members of the BMA is also set to take place, from 7am on 20 July until 7am on Saturday 22 July.

A number of services will be impacted, including the need to reschedule some outpatient and surgical appointments.

In light of the industrial action, Stockport NHS Foundation Trust (SFT) has called on the public to 'access healthcare in the most important way'.

As SFT says: "If a condition is not life, limb or sight-threatening, please use NHS 111 online in the first instance or alternative services such as your GP, pharmacy or local urgent treatment centre."

SFT also maintains that 'robust plans'' are in place to protect emergency services and to continue to safely care for patients who are in urgent need.

"We will maintain a focus on protecting essential life, limb and sight-saving services such as Accident and Emergency (A&E) (including Paediatric A&E), Maternity, Emergency Theatres, and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) (including Neonatal Intensive Care and Paediatric Intensive Care), Chemotherapy and Dialysis", says SFT.

If patients have an appointment planned with any Stockport NHS services during the period of industrial action, they are encouraged to attend as normal unless otherwise asked.

Anybody whose care may be impacted will be contacted directly to reschedule a new date as soon as possible.
