Human remains discovered by a local road earlier this week have been revealed to belong to a man in his 20s.

The remains were found by road workers along the M67 near Tameside on Monday 3 August, with police called to the scene that same morning.

A police investigation was launched and is still ongoing.

A post-mortem carried out by the Home Office has taken place, with further enquiries still ongoing.

However, it is now known that the body is of a male aged between 20-28-years-old, approximately 5'5" to 5'9" tall and of medium build. The ethnicity isn't known at this stage.

Police are continuing to work with specialist teams to find out how the man's body ended up where it did (by a bridge between junctions three and four), and how he died.

They are also looking to locate next-of-kin to establish an identity.
