CORRECTION - The Mancunian trip on 25 May has been postponed to 28 September. This article has now been edited to reflect this.
The golden age of rail will return once again to Stockport, with a number of exciting historic rail fixtures to look forward to over the coming months.
On 27 July, for example, Class 40 no. 40145 will call at Stockport on its way to Skegness, although unfortunately passengers will not be able to board the train here. The closest joining station is further down the line in Crewe.
In any case, 'The Jolly Whistler' will pass through Stockport at around 9am, after which it will take the Hope Valley line, finishing up in Skegness for a three-hour excursion.
The class 40 no. 40145 was built in 1961, and took its final run in 1984, forty years ago.
A range of both premier dining, first class and standard class options are available for this excursion - find tickets and more information HERE.
And that's not all - later in the year on 28 September, 'The Mancunian' will call at Stockport on its way from Manchester Piccadilly to Llandudno in Wales. It will be pulled by the steam locomotive No.45596 Bahamas.
Steam fans will be able to catch sight of The Mancunian on its way from Piccadilly to Stockport around 10.30am, when it will pass through Heaton Chapel and over the viaduct.
The train will encompass Stockport, the ancient city of Chester, cross the gentle River Dee, past Wales' famous seaside towns, arriving at Llandudno and, later, Holyhead. Passengers can expect fantastic views of the Irish Sea and its picturesque coastline, as well as landmarks such as Conwy Castle, the classic round-towered fortress built in the late 13th century on the orders of Edward I.
