A new coffee and pastry shop has opened in Heaton Chapel.

Named Briola - Sicilian for brioche - it's based at the junction of School Lane and Manchester Road, on the site of the former Belcasa Concept furniture store.

The shop opened its doors officially on Saturday 10 January from 10am, following a successful trial opening on 20 December.

Soreen Billbas, founder of Briola, said the aim is to make a community hub as well as just a place to eat and drink.

An architect by trade, Soreen is looking to bring the same community-focussed approach he takes on his building projects to this corner of the Heatons.

"When I first saw this place it screamed 'pastry shop'", he explained.

"We really want to get into the spirit of the community - families, remote workers - somewhere locals can enjoy, sit down, relax, that's upscale without being overly expensive."

And that's not all - Briola could also host community events, classes, workshops and more in the near future, Soreen said.

As for the menu itself, Soreen said that the aim is to showcase 'high quality'. Everything is made fresh on the day, and with natural ingredients.

The same quality is reflected in the coffee, which is hand-picked arabica - these beans are lighter, sweeter and more delicate than the more common robusta variety.

The cafe also boasts a highly-experienced team, including a Parisian-trained pastry chef, as well as bakers from Uzbekistan and Armenia bringing flavours from their own respective countries.

On the menu is a wide selection of coffees and iced lattes, plus focaccia sandwiches, delicious pastries, honey cakes, and more.

Soreen also said the menu is expected to expand and change over time, in response to customer demand - cheese bread, marshmallow tarts and more could be available to try soon, for instance.

You can find Briola at 395 Manchester Rd, Stockport SK4 5B.

Expected opening times are 8am-4pm Tuesday to Friday, and 10am-4pm Saturday and Sunday.
