Greater Manchester Police has topped a list for the response times of the 45 police forces across the country.

The rankings, put together by Radaris, showed that GMP ranked number one for quickest 999 response times, answering 93.9% of calls within 10 seconds. Dorset Police ranked last, answering 75.1% of 999 calls in under 10 seconds.

The data comes from calls answered in November 2023. For GMP, it marks a big improvement on the previous month - for calls in October 2023, GMP placed fifth with response times.

The Greater Manchester Police team responds to two million calls each year, which includes 1,700 calls to 999 every day. The force operates in Stockport, and was in the news recently following 'Operation AVRO', a day of action in Stockport which saw 55 arrests and a number of warrants and seizures.

A spokesperson for Radaris has commented on the study findings: "Police revealed that crime had increased by 11% in the year ending December 2022 compared with the year ending December 2021.

"This year-on-year increase highlights a strong correlation between the rise in crime rates and its association with Christmas.

"Police response rates are important for several reasons, such as preventing the situation escalating, reducing the risk of harm to an individual or property, or improving chances of preserving valuable evidence."
