The UK Government has announced that around £229 million in provisional funding will go to mainstream Stockport schools for 2024-25.

This will average at around £5,655 per pupil. The money can be spent on things such as staff salaries, school trips, classroom equipment, and school energy bills.

Funding is allocated based on the 'National Funding Formula', which takes a variety of factors into account to ensure funding is fair. Such factors include the number of pupils a school has and how its location may affect the school's running costs.

Stockport receives £222 million for 2023-24, and so the £229 million for 2024-25 represents a 2.94% increase. For a typical secondary school with around 900 pupils, this increase equates to an additional £200,000 compared to 2023-24, or around an additional £310 per student.

Almost £60 billion has been promised across England, in what the government describes as the 'highest ever funding in real terms' for schools in England.

Speaking for Cheadle, Mary Robinson MP said: "It is great to see that Cheadle will receive almost £96 million through the National Funding Formula allocation for 2024-25. Every pupil is set to benefit from more staff and better classroom materials.

Education Secretary Gillian Keegan said: "Providing children with the best education sets them up for a better future, which is why we are funding our schools at record levels and have awarded our fantastic teachers with the highest pay award in 30 years.

"This investment means every pupil in England will receive a world class education and our brilliant teachers will have the resources they need to continue to inspire the next generation."
