Stockport will play host to some cycling glamour this year as the Tour de Manc passes through the borough on 5 May 2024.
The full route covers 124 miles of Greater Manchester, including a stretch in Stockport. Riders will enter the borough from the West, via Withington, then course through Cheadle and Cheadle Hulme.
Riders will then skirt Bramhall via Woodford, progressing to Hazel Grove, Marple, Marple Bridge and Romiley, past Werneth Low (the same stretch from last year's Tour of Britain), and ultimately into Tameside.
The Tour de Manc is open to all riders, and in fact comprises a number of different routes. The 124-miler is the 'Mad Manc' route, but there is a shorter, more beginner-friendly route based in North Manchester.
There is also a 104-mile and a 75-mile route - both of these are shortened versions of the 'Mad Manc', but both retain the aforementioned Stockport section.
For full details of route timings and start points, check out the Tour de Manc website HERE.
For many, the race is not just a feat of endurance but also an opportunity to raise money.
Local lad Damian Lacey is a practitioner at St Ann's Hospice, based in Heald Green, and will be taking part in the race to raise money for the charity.
"I did the Tour De Manc last year and absolutely loved it", he said. "It was so much fun. The views were brilliant but I am hoping for more sunshine this year!"
"From the moment you arrive on the day there is a real build up of excitement as you take your bike and meet everyone else doing the challenge. There are brilliant staging areas with music and energy that gets you ready to ride!
"I'm hoping for more sunshine this year, particularly at the finish line. I was going to take on the Manc Challenge but in a moment of madness I've signed up for the Classic Full Manc so it really will be a challenge!"
If you'd like to fundraise for St Ann's yourself, find more information HERE.
