February 2024 will be the month of 'DigiFest', Stockport Council has announced.

This comprises a month of digitally-themed events, ranging from 3D modelling classes to basic digital support sessions. Aimed at everybody in the borough, the goal is to 'reach specialist areas as well as the general public'.

More than 70 events are scheduled for the month. You can find a full list HERE.

A council spokesperson said: "DigiFest will be a superb way for people to explore digital in creative ways that will help bridge the digital divide caused by digital exclusion."

On the one hand, then, the events aim to improve 'digital literacy' - but, equally, there is also a focus on more advanced skills, such as video game design and podcast production.

Councillor Jilly Julian, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources, was 'delighted' to announce the event(s).

"DigiFest is for everyone", she said. "You can enjoy free family activities, workshops for businesses and VCFSEs and a seminar on digital inclusion. You'll discover how digital technology can improve your life and work and have fun along the way. [...]

"Digital technology can help you stay healthy and happy, giving you opportunities to learn, grow, and connect with others. Digital is constantly evolving, and we want to help you keep up with it and use it to enhance your life and work."

Councillor Frankie Singleton, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Sport, says: "It's fantastic to see these digital events on offer as part of our Town of Culture programme.

"Digital technologies can enable people from different backgrounds and cultures to connect and communicate with each other and learn from diverse perspectives and experiences.

"They can also provide access to information, resources and new opportunities that might otherwise be unavailable to them. Increasing digital inclusion across our communities, can help build diverse and inclusive communities and promote social justice and equity."
