Stockport residents bought an estimated £120,000 in presents for children and families across the borough for Christmas 2025.

It comes as part of The Giving Tree, a charitable initiative that runs every year in the Merseyway Shopping Centre.

As part of the Giving Tree scheme, a white Christmas tree is set up in the shopping centre, decorated with red gift tags containing gift requests. The requests come from children and families who might be struggling to pay for presents for the festive season.

The shoppers at Merseyway are invited to take a tag, buy the item requested on it, and drop it off ready for the Merseyway team to send it to the right person.

Merseyway has described this year as the 'most impactful year' in Giving Tree's seven-year history, with thousands of generous donations made including toys, books, games, winter essentials and nightwear.

In this festive season alone, the Giving Tree has supported homeless families, youth groups in deprived areas, and 18 local schools, meaning thousands of children across the borough got a little bundle of joy this year.

The scheme has also supported Women in Refuge, as well as countless patients at local hospitals such as Wythenshawe and Stepping Hill.

Victoria Nichol, Merseyway centre manager said, "The Giving Tree continues to be our most meaningful initiative that we deliver each year.

"Seeing how it has grown over the last seven years is a true reflection of the compassion and generosity of Stockport and the wider community- we even had a school travel from Wigan to take part this year!".

"From our team here at Merseyway and volunteers, to shoppers, partners and local businesses that support the campaign, everyone plays a vital role.

"Together, we're making sure that no child in our community wakes up without a gift on Christmas morning."

Merseyway also thanked key contributors to the scheme including British Gas, Starkey, Gorvins Solicitors, Seven Movement Gym and Stockport County FC, alongside countless local shops and community groups.
