Full list of Stockport candidates battling in the local elections in 2026
By Local Democracy Reporting Service 13th Apr 2026
Residents of Stockport will head out to the polling stations on 7 May – and they have 110 candidates to choose from.
One seat in all 21 Stockport council wards will be contested as dozens try to get a place in the chamber. There are a total of 63 seats in the council chamber, with three councillors representing every ward.
Conservatives, Greens, Labour, Lib Dems and Reform have fielded the most candidates at this year's local election. Hopefuls from Your Party, Party of Women, Edgeley Community Association and Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition have also thrown their hats into the ring.
Currently no political party is in overall control of Stockport council, but the Liberal Democrats have the most councillors with 30. Labour have 19 councillors, Stockport Community Group have five, Greens and Independent Ratepayers have three, Bredbury and Woodley Independents have two and the Conservatives have one.
The Lib Dems would need to gain four council seats at this election to have a majority control over the council.
