Four Stockport schools have been named among the best in the North West by The Sunday Times.

The newspaper has released its 'Parent Power Guide for 2026' - its own league table based on year-on-year performance and editorial discretion.

Cheadle Hulme School, Cheadle Hulme High, Hazel Grove High and Stockport Grammar School all made it into the list.

Cheadle Hulme High School was named the second best comprehensive secondary in the North West, and the 10th best state secondary.

Hazel Grove High School, meanwhile, was named the fourth best comprehensive secondary in the North West.

And Cheadle Hulme School and Stockport Grammar both performed well in the best independent secondary schools category, placing at ninth and tenth in the North West respectively.

Other local high performers were The Manchester Grammar School - which was crowned Independent Secondary School of the Year in the North West - and Holy Cross RC High School in Chorley, which was named state 11-16 Secondary School of the Year.

The Sunday Times' Parent Power guide - now in its 33rd year - is recognised as the definitive ranking of the UK's top primary and secondary state and independent schools.

Helen Davies, editor of The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide, said: "The educational landscape is testing – budget challenges, rising student mental health issues, special educational needs and an increasingly uncertain future.

"But there is also so much to celebrate from the dedication of teachers who are finding ever more innovative and impactful ways to enrich their students and give them the very best start in life."

The full list features a searchable database of more than 2,000 schools by name, local authority, town and postcode - browse it here.
