Former Ups N Downs pub site for sale, with plans to convert to apartments

The former Ups N Downs pub site is up for sale, and could be turned into apartments.
The site, based at 1 Wellington Road South, is being marketed by MBRE for £700,000.
It comes with planning permission to turn the building into 14 new luxury apartments, along with a commercial space on the ground floor for a shop or cafe.
Specifically, plans include five one-bed apartments and nine two-bed apartments.
Plans were initially approved to convert the building in 2024, but so far no transformation has taken place.
It was described at the time as a 'derelict eyesore' in need of a new renovation.

The building has a long history, spanning around 200 years.
It was described in 1826 as "a newly erected public house with brewhouse", and is roughly contemporary with Wellington Bridge.
It was initially known as the Wellington Bridge Inn, but this was later simplified to The Wellington Inn.
In the 1970s, when it was known as Ups N Downs, it was a popular town centre spot.
Blogger Modern Mooch described it as "a rollercoaster ride from busy town centre pub, to edgy pseudo-club, populated by late night uniformed bus drivers, swaying on the metre square dance floor."
