Former Gatley post office could become cocktail and wine bar with live music
Plans have been submitted to convert the former Gatley post office on Gatley Road into a wine and cocktail bar.
The aim is to create a new bar "that respects the building's history while providing a modern social space for the community".
The venue could also host live music, up until 11pm.
The site, at 185 Gatley Road, has been vacant for around eight years. The road is home to a host of shops, restaurants, and the iconic Tatton building.
The proposed opening hours would be:
- 4-11pm on Wednesday to Thursday;
- 3pm to midnight on Friday and Saturday
- 3-10pm on Sunday
Dubbed 'The Old Post Office Bar', the building design would aim to maintain the "architectural integrity", of the former post office "while providing an inviting atmosphere for customers".
There would be level access from the street and clear pathways within the building itself, so it would be accessible for people with disabilities.
The applicant argues: "The Old Post Office Bar aims to enhance the social and cultural fabric of Gatley by providing a welcoming venue while respecting the heritage of the site. [...]
"There will be no environmental damage or impact to the area, We will be reopening a neglected and empty retail unit that has been vacant for approximately eight years which has become an eyesore for Gatley village."
A premises licence has also been submitted to the council to serve alcohol.
A decision is due on the plans in December.
