Flood alerts have been issued for parts of Stockport following heavy rain.

Areas around the Mersey and parts of Reddish Vale have seen flooding, and levels around the River Etherow near Compstall are also high.

Images shared on social media show semi-submerged cars around Portwood Tesco, and a high-flowing River Mersey.

As of 11.41am on Wednesday 1 January, there are 20 'flooding expected' notices around Stockport - that's according to the Environment Agency, on gov.uk.

According to the Environment Agency, if your area receives a flood warning, you should: "move your loved ones, pets and valuables to a safe place; move to higher ground or the upper floor of a building; turn off the gas, electricity and water in your home if it's safe; put flood protection equipment in place; do as the emergency services tell you; and help others if it's safe to do so."

Risk of flooding will reduce over the next few days, the Environment Agency says.
