Firefighters were called to a car fire in Poynton yesterday (Monday 22 June).

Around 5pm, Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service sent a fire engine from Bollington to tackle the blaze, which was believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

The incident took place on Woolley Avenue, which was closed in both directions as fire crews worked.

The firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reels to extinguish the car, which was 'well alight' - meaning the fire was burning strongly and steadily.

A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hotspots, which were subsequently dampened down.

The scene has since been cleared.
