On Saturday 20 May around 11am, a fire took hold of a property on Atherton Street, Edgeley, forcing two neighbouring houses to be evacuated.
After spending two and a half hours extinguishing the fire, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) handed the incident over to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
It is not believed that anyone was injured, and the cause of the blaze remains unknown.
Edgeley Community Association councillor Matt Wynne stated on Twitter that the house contained a cannabis grow. "Whilst normal democracies around the world have got on with cannabis, here another afternoon checking in with residents, making sure they're okay after a dwelling utilised as a cannabis grow has gone up in flames", he said.
Such reports have not been confirmed by GMP. Stockport Nub News have reached out to the police for confirmation.
Speaking of tackling the blaze, a spokesperson for GMFRS said: "At around 11am on Saturday morning (20th May), firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a property on Atherton Street in Stockport.
"Three fire engines from Stockport, Cheadle and Offerton fire stations quickly attended the scene. Firefighters used two hose reels and a 13.5 metre ladder to extinguish a fire in the bedroom of the property.
"Two neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution.
"Firefighters ensured the building was safe before handing over to colleagues at Greater Manchester Police. Crews were at the scene for around two and half hours."
