Demolition works have begun on the site of the former Bamboo Club building off London Road, Hazel Grove.

The premises buildings - permanently closed since 2023 - will be demolished to make room for 'redevelopment at some point', according to a planning application submitted earlier this year.

For many this will no doubt be a sad end to a building with a rich history. Having opened in 1961, the Bamboo Club has seen multiple generations of visitors, and has been the site of countless chance meetings, musical performances, and more.

Passers-by and drivers should not expect significant disruption, as most of the work is contained on-site.

The Bamboo Club started life as a jazz venue, hosting some early legends in the '60s such as Jimmy Witherspoon.

The club has even hosted Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, and Elton John, all of whom made appearances there early in their careers.
