Daring fundraiser takes on 100-mile ultramarathon for Stockport-based charity
By Alasdair Perry 26th Feb 2026
A daring adventurer will be taking on a massive ultramarathon in aid of Moya Cole Hospice (formerly St Ann's), based in Stockport.
Jennie Waters - herself a great niece of the charity's founder Moya Cole - will be raising money by running 100 miles in just 30 hours.
Moya Cole Hospice, based in Heald Green, provides support for people with life-limiting illnesses.
Jennie's route comprises 100 miles of Shropshire countryside, and will incorporate no less than 17,000 feet of climbing - that's well over half the height of Mount Everest.
"It's really good to challenge yourself," Jennie said. "My husband has done a couple of 100 ultramarathons. It's not something that's ever really appealed to me, but it's good to do something that scares you because you don't really know what you're capable of until you try something.
"I've done a couple of 50 miles runs but nothing like this before. There is a lot of elevation in this 100-mile route so it will add even more of a challenge," she added.
Jennie will set off on July 25, 2026.
In the meantime, she's working on strength and conditioning.
