Council to discuss additional bus services to Manchester Airport

Councillors at Stockport Town Hall will discuss the prospect of additional bus services to Manchester Airport at an upcoming meeting.
A motion moved by Cllr Matt Wynne seeks to address what is perceived as "continual poor connectivity between the borough of Stockport and Manchester Airport".
The motion argues that since Manchester Airport is a "significant economic asset" for the area, another bus service should be introduced for the airport from Stockport.
If the motion is passed, the council will write to Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to call for 'a resilient express bus service' to cover this route.
The council will also resolve to bring the matter before Stockport's Bee Network Committee, come the time when such a body is introduced.
At current, the services between Stockport borough and the airport are the 313, 199, and, more occasionally, the 368.
The motion argues, however, that these services can be crowded, and sometimes unreliable; particularly the 199, which has a long distance to travel from Buxton.
"Stockport has been left without a proper express bus service for a number of years now following Stagecoach's decision to axe [the X30] in 2020", Cllr Wynne said.
"With fares now at £2, bus franchising coming to Stockport in Jan 2025, the Edgeley Community Association say it's now time to restore a resilient express bus service for airport shift workers and holiday-makers at all times of day and night."
