Construction set to begin on new 45 new 'high quality' Stockport town centre apartments

Construction is starting on 45 new apartments in Stockport town centre this June.
Based on High Street, above Little Underbank, the project will involve the conversion of an existing historic building on site - an early 20th century construction which was formerly a probation office.
There will also be a new-build section to complement the historic building conversion.
The design aims to retain as much historic character of the original building as possible.
In a post on social media, contractor Short Construction said they were 'thrilled' that construction is beginning.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2026.
The apartments will feature a mixture of 'high-quality' one- and two-bed homes, spread across four storeys.
In preliminary discussions last year, planning officers, councillors and representatives from St Joseph's - the adjacent primary school - said they were happy with the plans.
As well as the 45 homes, plans also include a rear courtyard garden and sheltered space for 45 bicycles.
As for car parking, the developer pointed out that there is 'sufficient car parking in the vicinity', and that the level of existing public transport links in the town centre is also sufficient.

In a statement on social media, a Short Construction spokesperson said: "We are thrilled to share that work is set to begin on our new Overbanks residential scheme in Stockport.
"Positioned on the High Street, the project involves the partial demolition and conversion of an existing building and a new build section to deliver a high-quality residential scheme comprising 45 units.
"The development involves landscaping, highway improvements and associated infrastructure works.
"The former probation centre on site has already undergone partial demolition, enabling works to begin. With preparations complete, the main construction phase is due to commence this month.
"We look forward to continuing our collaboration with all parties to ensure the scheme is delivered safely and to the highest standards within the agreed timeframe."
