Cause of Compstall Mill fire unconfirmed
Yesterday evening (Wednesday 14 August), emergency services were called to a mill fire in Compstall.
The blaze was at the Compstall Mills building - a large crew of emergency services attended the scene throughout the night.
The cause of the blaze remains unconfirmed.
A GMFRS spokesperson said: "Shortly after 6.15pm on Wednesday (14 August), eight fire engines from Marple, Offerton, Hyde, Stockport, Gorton, Stalybridge, Ashton-under-Lyne and Whitefield fire stations, and the technical response unit from Ashton-under-Lyne, were called to a derelict mill fire on Andrew Street in Stockport.
"Firefighters arrived quickly and used six hose reel jets and breathing apparatus to bring the blaze under control. Crews are still tackling the fire but have contained it on all sides and the road closure that was in place on Andrew Street will be lifted. Operations are being scaled down but we will remain at the scene overnight."
