Brinnington residents invited to help allocate £20m funding package
By Alasdair Perry 3rd Jun 2026
Residents in Brinnington are being invited to help direct how a £20m funding package is spent in the area.
Brinnington has secured £20 million through the UK government's Pride in Place programme, and the government has promised to let residents decide what the money goes towards.
To help guide the investment, Stockport Council is creating a Pride in Place board, and is inviting Brinnington residents to apply and join the board.
The chair has already been appointed - lifelong Brinnington resident Nicola Thompson.
Nicola will be working with residents and local partners to make sure Brinnington's Pride in Place programme "reflects the priorities, strengths and voices of the community".
Applications to join the board are open until midday on Friday 26 June.

As well as the board appointees, residents will also get the chance to direct the scheme through other events and engagement sessions.
Speaking of her appointment, Nicola said: "Brinnington is my home, and I care deeply about its future.
"I'm really proud to be taking on this role and working alongside residents to shape what comes next.
"This is a real opportunity to make sure local voices lead the way, and I would encourage anyone with ideas, energy, or a passion for the area to apply and get involved.
"We want the Board to reflect the full strength and diversity of our community."
Nicola was appointed following a selection process involving Stockport MP Navendu Mishra; Cllr Dan Oliver, Stockport Council's cabinet member for culture; and Brinnington and Stockport Central ward member Cllr Christine Carrigan.
They issued a joint statement saying: "We are delighted to see Nicola appointed as Chair of the Brinnington Pride in Place Board. As someone who has lived in Brinnington her whole life, Nicola understands the community, its strengths, and the opportunities ahead better than anyone.
"This funding is a major opportunity for Brinnington, but the success of Pride in Place will come from local people shaping the programme and driving the ideas that matter most to them. Nicola's leadership will be an important part of making sure residents are at the heart of those decisions.
"We want this to be something the whole community feels part of, and we would encourage residents from all backgrounds to get involved, share their ideas, and help shape the future of Brinnington together."
