Bigger store and car park proposed for Heaton Chapel Aldi
By Alasdair Perry 26th May 2026
Heaton Chapel's Aldi could be getting a larger store and a bigger car park.
Plans have been submitted for an extension of the site, aiming to 'increase retail provision' and meet parking demand.
The proposals outline a single-storey extension of the store building itself, comprising 450 square metres.
The car park extension would include an additional 20 spaces, bringing the total provision to 101 spaces, including six disabled spaces, nine parent and child spots and four fast electric vehicle charging spaces.
As for additional traffic, the applicant argued that "the store extension would not attract any significant number of additional trips".
New landscaping and planting would also be included around the boundaries of the site.
The applicant said: "The proposed Aldi food store extension and additional car parking provision is required to accommodate existing parking demand, improve the operational efficiency of the store and increase the retail provision for the local community and meet consumer demands."
A decision is due on the plans in July.
Until then, the consultation expiry date is 10 June, or 12 June for neighbours.
