Amber heat warning in place as Stockport bakes under 'exceptionally warm' temperatures
By Alasdair Perry 24th Jun 2026
An amber heat warning is in place for Stockport from today (Wednesday 24 June) until Friday (26 June).
The Met Office issued the warning, which is in effect until 23:59pm on Friday.
They warned of 'exceptionally' warm temperatures during the day and night, and said 'substantial changes' in daily routine and working practices may be necessary.
Delays on road and public transport networks may also be possible, with some trains through Stockport already having been subject to cancellations.
There could also be adverse weather effects for those most vulnerable to extreme heat, leading to potential serious illness or danger to life.
The Met Office advised the best way to keep safe is by drinking plenty of fluids, keeping out of the sun, and avoiding exercise between 11am and 3pm.
If going outside, wear sunscreen, stay in the shade and try to bring a wide-brimmed hat.
