The A6 will be closed on Sunday 11 May between Exchange Street and Heaton Lane.

The closure will run from 6am until 12noon, as workers look to remove debris from the Mersey river.

Crews will use a crane to remove the debris - a damaged bridge which fell into the river following floods at the start of 2025.

Diversions for vehicles will be in place via St Mary's Way and Tiviot Way / Belmont Way – signs will be in place. However, pedestrian access will remain open.

A Stockport Council spokesperson said: "We know a Sunday morning road closure isn't ideal — especially on the A6 — but we've got to do some important work.

"Thanks so much for your patience while we get this sorted safely – we're hoping we can get the job finished earlier than expected."
