17th century Bramhall home damaged by fire set for refurbishment
Plans to reconstruct parts of a historic home on Bramhall Lane South have been submitted to Stockport Council.
The house was badly damaged by a fire in early 2022, which is believed to have started when sparks emanating from the chimney of an adjoining building caught the thatched roof.
As a result, plans have been submitted to reconstruct the roof, along with three new dormers. A separate application will also be submitted to raise the height of the neighbouring chimney, to prevent a similar fire happening in future.
The refurbishment will also benefit from stronger fireproof features (such as a fire-break layer in the construction).
As stated in the planning application: "The proposal is to reinstate the roof back to its original form and to return the building to use as a dwelling house.
"As slight concessions to practicality, it is proposed that three new thatched dormers are added to the rear slope of the roof of this house.
"The dormers will be completely in keeping with the character and architecture of the original dwelling."
