Celebrating the news, Stockport Council shared some archive photographs of stations around the local railway network.
The following stations are celebrating anniversaries:
- Cheadle Hulme Station (180 years)
- Marple Station (160 years)
- Reddish North Station (150 years)
- Bredbury Station (150 years)
- Woodsmoor Station (35 years)
The following lines are also celebrating this year:
- Marple to New Mills Central Line (160 years)
- Ashburys to Romiley and Bredbury Line (160 years)

Cllr Grace Baynham, Cabinet Member for Parks, Highways and Transport Services, said: "The railways have been the lifeblood of our communities, connecting people and places for generations.
"As we celebrate these remarkable milestones, it's also an opportunity to look ahead.
"Future investment in our railway network - especially here in Stockport - will ensure that our transport system continues to evolve, offering sustainable, reliable, and efficient travel options for everyone.
"It's important that we build on this incredible legacy for the benefit of future generations.
"It has been a privilege for me to witness all the hard work and the dedication of the station Friends' groups in the borough, who contribute so much to our stations."

Sarah Morgan, Community Rail Officer for the South East Manchester Community Rail Partnership, added: "During this year of milestone celebrations, we will be recognising and celebrating the enormous contribution station volunteers make to our community rail partnership areas.
"The tireless groups and individuals put so much time and commitment into their local stations – enhancing them through projects such as artworks, gardening and history boards, as well as holding celebratory events.
"Throughout the year we will be sharing stories about these volunteers, looking at what inspires them and the impact they make at their local stations and within the wider community."
