'Revitalise Reddish' is a project which strongly supports the idea that living in a beautiful area has a profound impact on wellbeing.

This project aims to paint nature-inspired murals on two dilapidated walls in Reddish, bringing colourful artwork to what would otherwise be dreary and unassuming facades.

The project is organised by Reddish Community Together (RCT) in collaboration with Heart Murals, and has been made possible by a fundraiser which, as of time of writing, is only a few pounds away from its £1,500 goal.

The money will go towards the commission, preparation, and materials necessary for such a large painting job.

The sites in question are the disused Reddish public toilets opposite Morrisons, and the bare wall at the exit of Reddish North station.

As RCT states: "These captivating artworks won't just enhance the visual beauty of Reddish; they'll also cultivate a warm and inviting atmosphere for everyone passing through, visiting, and residing here.

"Art possesses a remarkable ability to uplift, inspire, and create a sense of belonging. Beyond their visual appeal, these murals will narrate stories, evoke emotions, and bring our community closer together."

Speaking more widely of the beautification and improvement of Reddish, RCT member Bridget was keen to emphasise that local residents have a big part to play.

"If we need change, it has to start with us", she said. "That could lead to more positive things being introduced to Reddish further down the line.

"It could bring more people into the centre or lead to more investment."

On the motivation behind projects such as this, Bridget said: "Love the area you live in - you can make it happen."

As well as this mural project, RCT is also responsible for general improvement works in Reddish. This newly-formed volunteer group is also involved in cleaning up allewyays, litter-picking, planting flowers and more.
