Polling day information - constituency boundary changes, polling stations, and more
Polling day for the 2024 General Election will take place tomorrow (Thursday 4 July).
Before the day, there are a few things to bear in mind, including constituency boundary changes, finding your polling station, and what to expect at the station itself.
Boundary changes
The first thing to bear in mind is that some of the constituencies in the borough will have their boundaries changed. You can check what constituency you are in here. The broad patterns, however, are as follows:
- Cheadle - no changes
- Hazel Grove - Now includes other parts around Offerton, including Woodbank Estate, Little Moor, Hempshaw Lane, and Nangreave Road. The rest of the boundaries remain the same. In other words, 15.9% of the former Stockport constituency are now part of Hazel Grove.
- Stockport - Now includes Reddish, which was part of the former Denton and Reddish constituency. As mentioned above, parts of Offerton have been given to the Hazel Grove constituency. The new Reddish boundary stretches up just past Reddish North railway station. In the west, it includes around half of Highfield Park, and in the east it joins with Brinnington which has historically been part of this constituency.

Explaining the changes on gov.uk, the Government said: "Constituency boundaries are reviewed periodically to make sure that constituencies are all roughly a similar size and respect local ties between areas."
Polling stations
Stockport Council has 25 schools which are being used as polling stations on the 4th.
They will be open from 7am-10pm on Thursday 4 July.
The list is not publicly available, however you can check your nearest station on the council website HERE.
The majority of schools which are acting as polling stations will remain open. For those that aren't, the schools themselves have communicated locally if they are changing to remote learning or using an INSET day.
The candidates
A wide range of candidates are standing in the borough's three constituencies.
Read about them and their pledges here: Cheadle | Hazel Grove | Stockport
Most candidates represent a political party, although some stand as independents. The leader of the political party which wins the most seats will become the next Prime Minister.

What to remember at the polling station
You must bring valid photo ID to vote. Acceptable forms of ID are passports, driver's licences, and some travel cards. Find a full list HERE.
If you were a face covering for religious or medical reasons, you may be asked to remove it briefly to allow for visual identification.
You may have received a polling card in the post, but you don't need to bring it to the station. Just give your name and address when you arrive and you'll be given a voting card, where you can cast your vote.
Put an X next to ONE candidate to cast your vote.
