Life Leisure launches Move Well Studio at Avondale to make exercise accessible for all

Life Leisure Avondale in Stockport has opened the doors to its brand-new Move Well Studio, the first public leisure studio in Greater Manchester offering cutting edge power-assisted equipment designed specifically for older adults and those with more complex health conditions.
Developed for people who find traditional gyms too overwhelming or physically challenging, the new welcoming space is part of Life Leisure's ongoing investment into making health and fitness accessible to all.
The Move Well Studio is ideal for older adults, people with mobility issues and long-term health conditions, those recovering from illness or injury, or anyone looking for a more gentle approach to getting active.
Michelle Childs, Head of Health Development, Life Leisure, says: "Stockport has one of the fastest-growing older populations in the North West. We already serve a large older adult demographic and our latest investment in the new Move Well Studio gives us a dedicated space to better meet these customers' needs and do something really impactful for older adults."
The studio features a circuit of specialist power-assisted equipment from British manufacturer Innerva, designed for those who need extra support during exercise. The innovative machines are electronically powered so users don't have to rely solely on their own strength to exercise. Instead, the equipment guides and supports them through each movement.
This unique approach allows people to exercise safely and comfortably, at their own pace, while working all major muscle groups to gradually improve aerobic fitness, muscular strength, balance and flexibility.

But it's not just about physical activity. The Move Well Studio is also a place to socialise, meet new people and build confidence in a friendly, non-intimidating space. The circuit-style layout encourages conversation and connection, helping members become part of a like-minded community.
The studio is supervised by trained professionals to provide encouragement and guidance. Located on the ground floor of the centre, the Move Well Studio is easily accessible, with good transport links and free parking.
The opening of the studio will enable Life Leisure to expand its work with local healthcare professionals. The organisation receives close to 3,000 clinical referrals a year and already works closely with health partners in areas such as neuro, pulmonary and cardio rehab and falls prevention. The inclusive and supervised space will help the Life Leisure team to engage with new partners and can also support those who have completed rehabilitation and need ongoing support to stay active.
"We're incredibly proud of our new Move Well Studio. The response so far has been fantastic, not just from our members, but from healthcare professionals who see the real value in what this space offers. We all know someone who could benefit from a gentler, more supported approach to movement. It's not just about exercise; it's about creating a welcoming environment where social support is just as important as the workout," says Childs.
John Oxley, CEO of Life Leisure, added: "We're very proud to provide critical health and wellbeing interventions as part of our role in delivering impactful services as a partner of Stockport Council. The Move Well Studio reflects our shared ambition to create inclusive spaces that help residents across the Borough live healthier, more connected lives for longer."
