Monday 29 September

Len Pennie is the award-winning author of the bestselling poetry collection poyums and we're thrilled to be welcoming her to Stockport for the launch of her stunning follow-up poyums annaw - an incisive and fiercely honest collection of poems that confront sudjects such as the patriarchy, gender-based violence, domestic abuse and mental illness. Recieving rave reviews from the likes of Lemn Sissay, Susie Dent and Nigella Lawson, poyums had the biggest week of poetry sales in the UK when released in 2024 and in May this year, Len became the first poet in a decade to receive an award at the British Book Awards. Len will be in conversation with Terri White.
Tickets are £5.00 each or £14.99 including a copy of poyums annaw. Light refreshments are included in the ticket price.
**Venue change - please note this event will now be held at Runaway Brewery & Taproom, 9 -11 Astley St, Stockport SK4 1AW**
Event starts at 6:30pm (doors at 6pm)
About the book:
There isn't a timescale for how you should heal
Your bad days are valid, your heartache is real
But so is the day that your smile will return
That fire within you continues to burn
You will overcome this and continue to thrive
You are here, you are loved, you are whole, you're alive.
A formidable follow up to her award-winning debut poetry collection, Len Pennie's poyums annaw is just like her: defiant, angry and trailblazing. These poems are a call to arms, confronting ideas of patriarchy, gender-based violence and societal injustice with equal parts tenderness, quick-wit and righteous fury. poyums annaw firmly cements Len as a defining voice in contemporary Scots poetry.
