An art exhibition showing the works of John Renshaw is coming to Stockport Art Gallery from 5 April to 18 May 2025.
Renshaw's work is characterised by intricate detail, and its powerful emotiveness. His paintings have previously been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Painters, and a host of other prestigious galleries.
Stockport Council said it is 'proud' to host the retrospective exhibition.
Sadly, John now has Alzheimer's, and so the works are being presented by the Renshaw family.
"He remembers very little but his passion for art, painting, drawing, and literature is one thing he has not forgotten", John's daughter Anna said.
Born in Macclesfield in 1946, Renshaw's artistic journey started in Stockport when he studied art at Stockport College.

He went on to become a distinguished senior lecturer at the University of Chester, helping to inspire the next generation of creatives.
Councillor Helen Foster-Grime, Cabinet Member for Community, Culture and Sport at Stockport Council, said: "We are delighted to host this special exhibition of John Renshaw's work.
"Through his connection with Stockport College, John is remembered fondly by colleagues and former students alike and this is a unique opportunity to see a diverse collection of his work all in one place."
Anna Lomas, John's daughter, added: "Dad's love of painting, teaching, and talking about art is all consuming. He is immensely proud of his career in this field, and making a difference to those he worked with, and for, along the way is something he cherishes deeply.
"Now dad has Alzheimer's. We have chosen to show his work now so he can share his love with the public and be present to see how much it is appreciated."
Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery is open 1-5pm on Thursday and Friday, and 10am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
