A junior school in Great Moor has received a glowing report from Ofsted following a recent inspection.

Great Moor Junior School, on Southwood Road, achieved the 'strong' standard in two areas and 'expected' in all others, under the inspectorate's new grading system.

This new system has done away with short summaries like 'outstanding' and 'good', and now assesses schools across six categories, with each being given a grade.

There are five graded tiers, from top to bottom: exceptional; strong standard; expected standard; needs attention; and urgent improvement.

Great Moor Junior School was of 'strong' standard when it came to attendance and behaviour and personal development and wellbeing.

And it was of expected standard in: achievement; curriculum and teaching; inclusion; and leadership and governance.

The school, which is attended by 311 kids from years 3-6, received a commendatory report that praised its 'impressive offer that prepares pupils exceedingly well for life beyond school'.

Inspector Rebecca Jewitt said: "Leaders tailor the school's personal, social, health and economic education curriculum to meet the needs of pupils and in response to local and national issues. This helps pupils to develop a keen understanding of the wider world."

She added pupils were 'eager to learn' and 'tried hard' in class.

"Pupils are keen to earn stars and 'happy side' awards for their behaviour and work. They are attentive and demonstrate extremely positive attitudes to their learning."

They also took on a 'wide range of special roles' such as learning ambassadors, which further helped prepare them for responsibilities in later stages of their lives.
